Brocato Remodel :: Paint Palette

As I mentioned in my first remodel post we weren't exactly planning to buy our house when we did, so I didn't have much time to plan for Phase 1 of our renovations before plunging in.  We were able to lease back our old home for 10 days while we completed cosmetic renovations to our new home.  We were unable to live in our house during this phase because I didn't want to move our kids in until the smokiness was out of the house, which meant we needed to paint the entire interior and replace all the carpet immediately.  This needed to be done anyway, but due to the lease back timeframe we had exactly 10 days to get it all done!  Oh, and we also refinished the hardwood floors throughout the main and split level as well.  I am so thankful to have had a great team of guys to work with on this, who understood our timeframe, and busted their rears to get everything done!

For the paint palette, I just wanted simple and clean, and I didn't want a ton of color on the wall.  The main floor of the house with kitchen/dining/great room, and our upstairs master suite, all have amazing natural light with large southeast facing windows, so I had that in mind when choosing finishes.  Most of our house has soft, consistent natural light throughout the day, which is incredibly gorgeous and soothing!  Here is our paint palette, all Benjamin Moore.

I love this post by Studio McGee about favorite white paints.  Everything they do is so classic yet current.  I have yet to see any of their work that I didn't LOVE.

Here are some gray inspirations.  I wanted the Hearth Room in particular to feel cozier and a bit darker than the rest of the house, since I knew it would be my and Tyler's "night room".  It also has the bar area, so it is sort of Tyler's "man cave" space as well (more on the evolution of that space later!).

As you can see, I have also gravitated toward spaces with strong black accents, like this last image with the black fireplace surround.  Two days before Christmas, I ended up painting the dingy 90s tile on our fireplace surround matte black, kind of on a whim, and Tyler and I LOVE IT!!!!  I will do a separate post later with inspiration for that and before + after photos eventually!  It is one of my favorite spaces in our house!!  I also love the idea of using black as an accent throughout the rest of the house, which has been very in lately.  See this post by Studio McGee about that.  They are geniuses, per usual.  I love every photo in this post!!  Black will also play a large role in our kitchen and master bathroom.  Inspirations and mood boards for those spaces to come!
