An Autumn Refresh: Living Room

Fall is crisping the air here in Denver, and with the change in seasons often come changes within our homes. (Actually it is currently snowing, but I’m going to pretend it is still Fall and that I didn’t completely miss the golden season completely.). I tend to “hygge“ our spaces by blending in layers (sheepskin, throw blankets) and swapping out pillows and accessories for richer, warmer tones. September is my birthday month, so this year I gifted myself with a mini autumn refresh in our living room! Yay!

I have been in the hunt for a new rug since we finished renovating the main floor, but it just hasn’t been a priority or in the budget since Lane was born. I had a placeholder rug in the space for over a year. But the wool fringe on it kept shedding and I was just over cleaning up the pieces and how ragged it looked. I happened upon this rug on clearance at World Market, and just love it in this space! I was worried that it may be too much “shaggy wool-ness” with the sheepskin swings in the adjacent space, but it is just so soft and pretty that it is staying. The kids immediately rolled all over it, and the hubs commented on how comfy it feels. Done.

I have also been on the hunt for some textural pillows for this space. Maybe mud cloth or silk sabra? Something vintage or with an artisan feel. I have several styles from this lovely shop, and was about to pull the trigger again (really such good value and quality!), when I happened upon these pillows from Anthropologie. They are by Joanna Gaines, so of course they are fabulous! I got the 22x22 white and lumbar sized ochre. The stitching is a beautiful representation of the sabra style, and with the fillings included, these pillows are an AMAZING deal (especially with my birthday coupon 🙌🏼🙌🏼)!! I couldn’t pass them up.

Other elements I love to layer in for fall: terra-cotta pots and vases, handmade vintage pottery, wool throws (see a favorite one here), moody vintage artwork, branches and grasses (or anything interested foraged from nature), candles, mini sheepskin rugs, anything brass!
